Calvin Women’s Soccer Falls To Top-Ranked WashU

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Today the Calvin women's soccer team traveled to St. Louis, Missouri where they fell 2-0 to the No. 1 ranked Bears of Washington University.

The Bears didn't wait long to get on the board as ten minutes into the game they snuck past Calvin defense and found the back of the net. Now, with a 1-0 lead, WashU kept the pressure on the Knights as they scored their second goal of the game just fifteen minutes later.

Most of the game was spent in Calvin's defensive half as the Bear relentlessly attacked the Calvin defense. However, senior goalkeeper Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) worked hard as the last line of defense and fought off shot after shot.

The Knights best scoring opportunity didn't come until the eighty-fifth minute when graduate student Liz Williams (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) stepped up to take a corner kick. She sent an arching ball toward the top of the eighteen-yard box where senior Mia Brown (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores) tried to get a foot on it and send it towards goal. Unfortunately for the Knights, the shot was deflected away by a Bears defender before being cleared safely to the other end of the field.

Dodge finished the game with a career high thirteen saves breaking her previous record of eleven which was set when the Knights took on WashU last season.

UP NEXT: The Knights will continue their weekend road trip tomorrow Saturday, September 6th when they travel to take on Greenville University at 3PM (CT).
