Calvin University sophomore linebacker
Carson Schnurstein was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for football on Monday.

Schnurstein (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) won the honor after leading the Calvin defense in a 24-16 win over Kalamazoo College on September 27, marking the first conference win in program history.

In the 24-16 win, Schnurstein led the Knights with 10 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.0 sack, which came late in the game and forced a 14-yard loss that helped the Knights hold off the Hornets.

This season, Schnurstein leads Calvin and the MIAA this season with 54 total tackles and 12.5 tackles for loss. He also ranks second on the Knights with 4.0 sacks.

Earlier this season, Schnurstein was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after a 14-tackle effort against Concordia University Wisconsin.

The 4-0 Calvin football team will return to action on Saturday, October 4, when it travels to Alma College for a game scheduled to kick off at 2:00 PM.
