Calvin Women's Volleyball Competes Weekend Sweep at Alma Tournament

ALMA, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's volleyball team competed in day two of the Alma Tournament where it took on the Comets of Capital University.

The Knights made quick work of the Comets as they took them down in three sets with scores of 25-23, 25-28, and 25-13.

In the first set it was the Comets who took an early lead as they went up 6-3 over the Knights. However, with some key kills from senior Madison Wiersema (Fremont, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) Calvin quickly reclaimed the lead. Both teams battled for momentum as there were 11 ties and 5 lead changes throughout the set before the Knights claimed control down the stretch to go up 1-0 on Capital. Senior Aerin Baker (Saugatuck, Mich./Saugatuck) led the attack for the Knights with five kills.

As the second set got underway, while the Comets worked to keep things close, the Knights never relented their lead as they took a 2-0 lead. Calvin kept things rolling in the third set as they made quick work of the Comets and claimed the 3-0 sweep.

Baker finished the day as the Knights lead attacker with 15 kills while freshman Sarah Bradley (Clarkston, Mich./Everest Collegiate) tallied eight kills. Wiersma recorded six kills and three blocks while senior Emma Ekblaw (Chesterton, Ind./Chesterton) and junior Tryna Vander Zwaag (Hamilton, Mich./Holland Christian) each chipped in three blocks apiece.

Sophomore Delaney Kemp (Frisco, Texas/Frisco Centennial) led Calvin with eight digs while sophomore Grace Spoelma (Caledonia, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finished the day with 18 assists.
