MVB Head Coach

Men's Volleyball

Aaron Sagraves Tabbed to Lead Calvin Men's Volleyball Program

Aaron Sagraves has been named interim head men's volleyball coach at Calvin University.

Sagraves comes to Calvin after an 11-year tenure at Cornerstone University where he served in the capacity as athletics director and sports information director.

A native of Rockford, Michigan, Sagraves is making his head collegiate coaching debut. He is no stranger to the sport of volleyball, however. He has coached at the club level, coaching boys teams for the VolleyNext Club and girls teams at the FaR Out Volleyball Club. He has also served as an assistant and JV girls high school volleyball coach alongside his wife at Jenison High School as she also led varsity programs at South Christian High School and Forest Hills Eastern High School.

Sagraves is a 2004 Cornerstone University graduate. After graduation he served as an assistant women's basketball coach at his alma mater as well as an assistant sports information director.

He became the assistant athletics director for communications at Davenport University in 2007, holding that role until 2014 when he moved back to Cornerstone to accept the assistant athletics director position for marketing and communications. During his time as a sports information professional, he received the Grant Berger Media Award twice from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. The award is given to a sports information professional who shows a passion and skill for promoting the game of volleyball.

He was the head Director of Athletics at Cornerstone from 2018-2025 where he oversaw an athletics program featuring 20 varsity teams including a men's volleyball program that was added in 2021.

Sagraves is excited to join Calvin University as a head coach in sport that has growing momentum.

"I have a passion for the sport of volleyball and to have the chance to lead young men in this through their journey in college is a privilege and honor," said Sagraves. "I also have a passion for growing disciples of Jesus Christ. I am blessed to have the opportunity to pursue both passions at Calvin University and for that I am grateful."

Calvin Director of Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer is pleased to bring Sagraves on board the Calvin coaching staff. "I am excited to see Aaron lead our men's volleyball program," said Timmer. "He brings a strong understanding of the sport and great enthusiasm to the role. Most importantly, he has a passion to lead young collegiate student-athletes. I am looking forward to watching him lead this young varsity program that has great potential."

The Calvin men's volleyball team is headed into its third season as a varsity program. The Knights are a member of the Midwest Collegiate Volleyball League and compete at the NCAA Division III level. Sagraves takes over the helm of the Calvin men's volleyball program in the inaugural year of boys high school volleyball as an official varsity sport in the Michigan High School Athletic Association. "It's an exciting time for boys volleyball in the state of Michigan," said Sagraves. "The Midwest has long been a strong base of (boys) volleyball in states like Ohio, Indiana and Illinois. Now Michigan is starting to catch up which is great to see."

His wife Allison (Park) Sagraves is a former head girls volleyball coach at Jenison, South Christian High School and FH Eastern. She was a standout collegiate volleyball player at Cornerstone University.

They are the parents of sons Kenyon, who is in the marching band at Jenison and Koleman who plays volleyball at the high school and club level.
