Calvin Women's Cross Country Records Perfect Score to Kick Off 2025 Season

Results

OLIVET, Mich. - Today the twenty-third ranked Calvin women's cross-country team put up a strong showing in their 2025 season debut as they nabbed first in the Comet Open.

With six schools represented the Knights recorded a perfect score of 15 points when they had runners finish in all top five spots. Hope finished in second with 60 points while Saint Mary's placed third with 97 points.

Junior Hailey Erickson (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) set the pace for the pack as she finished in first with a time of 18:29.8. Freshman Ayla Holben (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) was close behind in second at 18:31.1 while sophomore Alexis Ball (Grand Rapids, Mich./Traverse City Central) finished in third with a time of 18:33.3.

Freshman duo Brynn Ellenbecker (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) (18:35.4) and Emma Wierenga (Grafton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) (18.89.8) rounded out the scoring when they finished in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Despite not getting in the scoring for the Knights senior Catie Kramer (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) had a good showing as she finished in seventh with a time of 18:54.7 while fellow senior Naomi Dykstra (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids High School) finished close behind in eighth with a time of 19:05.7.

Freshman Jonathah Bouwman (Grand Rapids, Mich./Calvin Christian) rounded out the top ten as she finished with a time of 19:18.7 in her first collegiate race.

COACHES COMMENTS: "What a fun way to cap off our preseason," said head coach Nicole Kramer. "We packed it up well from the start and never looked back. The front pack was impressive to see work together so in sync, and it was reminiscent of some loaded teams of Calvin's past to see all of them working in tandem through difficult points of the race. It's hard to point out key performers because the top 9 today were all happy with their races and connected so well with each other. If a perfect score or having 10 in the top 13 isn't an indication, our team is off to a phenomenal start."

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, September 13th when they host the Diemer Classic at 9:30AM.
