Sophie Bull has been named the Division III Great Lakes Regional Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association. It marks the second USTFCCCA Regional Athlete of the Year award for Bull who was named the USTFCCCA Division III Women's Regional Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year last May.
A native of Denver, Colorado, Bull recently completed an outstanding senior cross country campaign. At the NCAA III Championships last Saturday, she placed fifth individually in a time of 21:17.5 on the 6K course in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The finish was good for NCAA III All-America honors, marking the second straight year she has done so in cross country. Her fifth-place finish matches the second-best individual national finish in Calvin women's cross country history with Renea Bluekamp (1991) and Betsy Haverkamp (1995) also placing fifth. Bull placed 28
th at the 2024 NCAA III Championships to garner her first All-America berth in cross country.
A graduate of Denver Christian High School, her fifth-place finish on Saturday came just one week after winning the individual title at the Great Lakes Region Championships. The Calvin standout also topped the podium at the Diemer Classic, and placed fourth at the MIAA Championships, the Joe Piane Invitational and the George Dales Invitational. She helped Calvin finish second as a team at the Great Lakes Regional Championships and 21
st at the NCAA III Championships.
Bull has now claimed All-America honors five times in her distance running career, twice in cross country, once in indoor track and field and twice in outdoor track and field. She was the Division III National Champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase last May at the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
