Calvin Women's Cross Country Prepares to Compete at NCAA III Championships

The Calvin women's cross country team is set to compete at the NCAA III Championships on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The race will be held at the Roger Milliken Center.

Race time for the women is 11 a.m. (ET) on Saturday.

Calvin will be making its 20th consecutive trip to the NCAA III Championships including its 35th overall. Calvin is ranked second all-time in Division III for appearances at the national meet in women's cross country.

The Calvin women's cross country program has captured two national titles, winning in 1998 and 1999.

Calvin is making its fourth straight trip to the NCAA III Championships under fourth-year head coach Nicole Kramer. Kramer is a former standout cross country and track and field runner for the Knights. She was a member of Calvin's 2008 team that finished as national runners-up. At the 2024 NCAA III Championships, Kramer led the Calvin women's cross country team to a 15th place team finish.

The Knights will enter Saturday's national meet ranked 26th in the latest United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Division III poll.

Calvin took third at the MIAA Championships three weeks ago but came back to take second last Saturday at the Great Lakes Regional Meet with a team score of 91 points. The finish helped Calvin gain an at-large bid to the NCAA III Championships on Saturday.

The Knights featured four all-region (top-35) individual finishes at the regional meet. Senior Sophie Bull ( Denver, Co./Denver Christian HS) led the way by winning the regional individual title with a time of 21:40.85 while junior Hailey Erickson (Arlington Heights, Il./Prospect HS) was 8th in 22:26.14. Also finishing in the top 35 for Calvin were freshman Ayla Holben (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt HS) in 18th (22:40.62) and freshman Brynn Ellenbecker (Itasca, Ill./Lake Park) in 29th (22:54.89). Senior Catie Kramer (Pickering, Ontario/Dunbarton) just missed all-region accolades, placing 36th (23:07.92) while sophomore Alexis Ball (Grand Rapids, Mich./Traverse City Central) was 43rd (23:15.05) and freshman Emma Wierenga (Grafton, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) was 145th (25:17.43).

Of the seven runners, three (Bull, Erickson and Ball) competed for Calvin at the 2024 NCAA III Cross Country Championships.

In addition to team accolades, Calvin runners will be shooting for All-America honors which will require a top-40 individual finish. The Calvin women's cross country team has produced 35 All-America finishes in program history including an individual national title by Renea Bluekamp in 1993.
