GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team earned its third consecutive win in MIAA play with a 7-0 sweep of Trine University on Wednesday inside Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
Calvin (9-7, 3-1 MIAA) opened play with three doubles wins and then took all six singles matches to sweep Trine (8-9, 2-2 MIAA).
In doubles, the Knights started strong as the number-three team of
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) won 6-0. Both the number-one team of
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and
Mário Neto (Boa Vista, Brazil/Reino) and number-two team of
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) won 6-3 to secure the one doubles point.
In singles competition, Alipio (6-1, 6-1), Sartori (6-0, 7-6 (7-0)), Broek (6-2, 6-0), Neto (6-4, 6-1) and Kim (6-3, 6-0) won in straight sets, while
Caleb Bartels (Belton, Mo./Kansas City Christian) earned three-set win by the scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 to secure the sweep.
NEXT UP: Calvin men's tennis will return to action on Saturday, April 12, when it travels to Kalamazoo College for a match scheduled to start at 3:00 PM.
