Calvin Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Albion to Remain Perfect in MIAA Play

ALBION, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's lacrosse team continued MIAA conference play when it traveled to take on the Brits of Albion College where a powerful second half propelled the Knights to victory. After today the Knights improved to a 9-3 overall record and a 3-0 MIAA record while the Bulldogs dropped to 1-2 in the MIAA and 3-8 overall.

Both teams got out to a slow start as attackers struggled to break through the opposing defenses. It wasn't until the last three minutes of the quarter that senior Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) found an opportunity and set the ball flying past the Brits goalkeeper to put the Knights on the board.

In the second quarter, the Knights took their newfound momentum and ran with it as they outscored Albion 7-1. Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian), Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt), and Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) each notched two goals while Chang added another to her total.

Calvin continued to dominate in the third quarter as sophomore Jessica Eenigenburg (Norton Shores, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) and freshman Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) both got in on the scoring action. In the fourth quarter, freshman Corinne Plumb (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy) notched two goals while Booher and Chang added to their totals as the Knights rolled to a 16-5 victory.

Booher, Chang, and Smith each finished their evening with three goals apiece while Plumb, Eenigenburg, and Bethard had two. In goal, sophomore Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) notched ten saves.

COACHES COMMENTS: "The team played well tonight," said head coach Blake Boehm. "Solid goal tending and strong defense anchored us early on as we struggled to get offensive production. We started to hit our stride in the 2nd quarter and used that momentum to carry us through the remainder of the game. We transitioned well tonight and were scrappy on the draw. Those extra possessions were key in our ability to maintain the lead."

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, April 12th when the travel to take on Adrian at 1PM.
