Calvin Women’s Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten in MIAA Play with 14-10 Win

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Calvin University women's lacrosse team earned a 14-10 win at Adrian College on Saturday to remain unbeaten in MIAA play this season.
 
Adrian (8-6, 0-5 MIAA) jumped in front early with a 4-2 lead after the first quarter, but Calvin (10-3, 4-0 MIAA) outscored the Bulldogs 4-2 in the second quarter to send the game into halftime tied at 6-6.
 
Delaney Johnson (Spring Lake, Mich./Spring Lake) and Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) scored the two Calvin goals in the first quarter, and Smith completed a first-half hat trick with two more goals in the second quarter. Johnson and Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt) scored the other two Calvin goals in the second quarter.
 
The Knights continued that momentum into the second half with Johnson scoring her third of the game 99 seconds into the third quarter. Jessica Eenigenburg (Norton Shores, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) followed with a goal two minutes later, and then Calvin answered an Adrian goal with two more to close the third quarter from Smith (her fourth) and Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) to take a 10-7 lead into the fourth quarter.
 
Adrian cut the Calvin lead to 10-8 with an early fourth-quarter goal but Calvin came right back with a goal by Booher 21 seconds later and then followed with goals from Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) and Bethard to push the lead up to five at 13-8. Bethard scored the final Calvin goal with 3:01 to play to seal the win.
 
Calvin controlled play for most of the game, out-shooting the Bulldogs 35-20 overall and 24-13 in shots on goal. The Knights also went 37-37 on clear attempts and won 20 out of 27 draw controls for the game.
 
Booher led the Knights with six total points (two goals, four assists). Smith led the team with four goals, while Johnson and Bethard each finished with three.
 
Chang led all players with 15 ground balls and 10 draw controls to go with two points (one goal and one assist) and two caused turnovers.
 
Hannah Rizzo (Waterville, Ohio/Anthony Wayne) was credited with six saves in goal for Calvin.
 
NEXT UP: Calvin women's lacrosse will return to action on Saturday, April 12, when it hosts Saint Mary's College (Ind.) in a game scheduled to start at 4:30 PM.
