MAUMEE, Ohio – The Calvin University women's tennis team moved to 2-1 in MIAA play with a 5-2 win over Adrian College at Shadow Valley Tennis Club on Saturday night.
Calvin (10-3, 2-1 MIAA) opened play by taking two of the three doubles points, and followed by winning four of the six singles matches to secure the win over Adrian (7-6, 2-2 MIAA).
The number-two doubles team of
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) and
Ryan Morey (Grand Rapids, Mich./Forest Hills Northern) won 6-0, and the third team of
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) and
Rachel Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) won 6-2 to earn the point. The Bulldogs were able to win the number-one doubles match over the team of
Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and
Marina Ribeiro (santos Sal Paolo, Brazil/Santa Cecilia) 6-4.
In singles, the Bulldogs won the numbers one and two matches, but the Knights answered with wins in the 3-6 spots in the line-up to earn the overall win.
Catherine Grissom (6-4, 6-3), Ribeiro (6-1, 6-2), Hooker (6-1, 6-3) and Morey (6-1, 6-1) each won in straight sets.
