MAUMEE, Ohio – The Calvin University men's tennis team swept the Adrian College Bulldogs 7-0 on Saturday night at Shadow Valley Tennis Club.
Calvin (8-6, 2-1 MIAA started strong and held that momentum from doubles all the way through singles to complete the sweep over Adrian (8-5, 2-1 MIAA).
The Knights earned their first point by sweeping all three doubles matches.
The number-one doubles team of
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and
Mário Neto (Boa Vista, Brazil/Reino) won 6-3, as did the number-three team of
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Caleb Bartels (Belton, Mo./Kansas City Christian). The number-two team of
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) won their match 6-2 to complete the sweep.
In singles, the Knights recorded wins in the numbers one and two spots in three sets. Both Alipio (6-7, 6-0, 6-4) and Bartels (3-6, 6-4, 6-4) overcame first set defeats to win their matches in three.
Sartori (6-1, 6-2), Broek (6-3, 6-1), Neto (6-1, 6-0) and
Ngozi De Cantuaria (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) (6-0, 6-4) each won their matches in straight sets.
