GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin dropped a 16-5 rivalry decision to Hope Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.
Calvin held an early 2-1 lead and was tied with Hope 3-3 at the end of one quarter of play.
Hope scored four unanswered goals in the second quarter to build a 7-3 lead and eventually lead 7-4 at intermission.
Hope controlled play in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights 6-0 to lead 12-4 heading into the final 15 minutes and then outscored Calvin 4-1 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
Hope won 18 of 23 faceoffs to control possession in the contest.
Junior
Braden Carpenter (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS) had two goals and an assist for the Knights while senior
Christian Coler (Ionia, N.Y. Honeyoye Falls-Lima) had two goals and caused four opponent turnovers. Junior
David Blackmon (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) also scored a goal for the Knights. Coler, senior
Josh Gage (Livonia, Mich. Detroit Catholic Central) and senior Corgin Schaumburg (Rockton, Ill. Hononegah) had four ground balls apiece.
Sophomore
Drew Garrison (Columbus, Ohio Worthington Kilbourne) caused three opponent turnovers and was credited with a pair of ground balls.
Schaumburg and senior
Carter Sherman (Ada, Mich. Lowell) combined for eight saves in goal for the Knights.
Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it travels to Kalamazoo for a 7:30 p.m. MIAA contest.
