INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Calvin freshman
Piper Sadowski competed at the Para Swimming World Series USA event this past weekend at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Sadowski (East Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) is a para swimmer in the S14 category which includes swimmers with an intellectual or cognitive impairment disability.
Sadowski has been swimming since she was eight years old. She swam for the Grand Rapids Christian High School girls swim team and has been competing in para swim competitions since 2022.
She has broken a number of U.S. par-records over the past eight months. On Friday, she set a new American record in the 400 meter freestyle with a time of 5:09.77, lowering the mark by a second. She later was a member of the USA Mixed 400 meter medley relay team that took second with an American record-time of 4:43.17 with Sadowski leading off the relay with a 100 meter backstroke split of 1:16.40. The relay time shattered the previous American record by 21 seconds.
On Thursday, night, she competed in the 200 meter freestyle and set a personal-best time of 2:24.74, surpassing her previous best by three seconds. The finish was good for fifth place.
On Saturday, she placed third in the 100 meter freestyle in a time of 1:08.45.
In December, she captured a US Para-Swimmer National title in the 400 meter IM with a time of 6:26.95.
Some of her U.S. Para-Olympic records over the past month include times in the 1,000 yard freestyle, 100 yard backstroke and 100 yard IM.
