ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Calvin men's track and field team tuned up for upcoming MIAA Championships with a competition at the GVSU Extra Weekend Invitational on Saturday.
In the 400 meters, sophomore
Mason Schimmel (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) took 13
th in 50.79 while junior
Danny Andringa (Pella, Ia./Pella Christian HS) was 14
th in a career-best time of 50.90. Junior
Ethan Sculley (Byron Center, South Christian HS) was 16
th in 51.32.
In the 110 high hurdles, sophomore Lucas Vandergriend (Grand Rapids, Mich./Potter's House) was 15
th (16.61). The Calvin 400 meter hurdles was led by freshman
Will Richardson (Stockton, Md./Snow Hill HS) who placed 12
th in 59.28 with sophomore
Jarrett Febus (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) close behind in 13
th place with a career-best time of 59.34 Vandergriend was 14
th in 1:01.07.
Sophomore
Vaughn Meyer (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) recorded a career-best time of 3:58.55 in the 1500 meter invite race that was good for 28
th place.
Junior
Jack DeKruyter (Holland, Mich./Zeeland West HS) was 20
th in the 800 meters in a career-best time of 2:02.63 while freshman
Caleb Baker (Indianapolis, Ind./Heritage Christian HS) was 23
rd in a career-best time of 2:03.19.
In the 4x100 meter relay, freshman
Max Huizinga (Hudsonville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS), freshman
Benjamin Habers (Lake Ann, Mich./Traverse City West HS), freshman
Alex VanSweden (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg HS) and sophomore
Eze Nwachuku took fifth in 42.56.
The field events were paced by graduate student
Matthew Toldy (Huron, Oh./Huron HS) who placed 17
th in the hammer throw (15-0) while freshman
Carson Arnould (Hudsonville, Mich./Zeeland West HS) was 19
th in the discus (140-5).
Calvin will now prepare for the MIAA Championships scheduled to get back underway on May 1 and again on May 2 at Alma College. Â
