ALBION, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team closed the regular season with a 7-0 sweep at Albion College on Saturday.
Calvin (11-8, 5-2 MIAA) was in control from start to finish, winning all thee doubles matches and then sweeping the singles matches against Albion (5-11, 1-4 MIAA), including five wins in straight sets.
In doubles, the Knights secured the first point thanks to a three-match sweep. The number-three team of
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Ngozi De Cantuaria (Santa Ana, Calif./Foothill) won 6-0 to start the scoring. The number-two team of
Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) and
Caleb Bartels (Belton, Mo./Kansas City Christian) followed with a 6-1 win, and the number-one team of
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and
Mário Neto (Boa Vista, Brazil/Reino) won 6-2.
In singles, Alipio (6-1, 6-0), Bartels (6-1, 6-2), Sartori (6-0, 6-2), Neto (6-1, 6-1) and Warners (6-2, 6-2) each won in straight sets.
In the number-six match,
James Vander Ark (Leawood, Kan./Kansas City Christian) won in three sets 6-3, 6-7 (7-9) and 1-0 (10-3).
