GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University men's tennis team put together a dominant performance in a 7-0 win over The University of Olivet on the indoor courts at Huizenga Tennis and Track Center on Tuesday.
In its final scheduled home match of the regular season, Calvin (10-8, 4-2 MIAA) came out strong against Olivet (2-17, 0-6 MIAA) to start and never relented as the Knights won the doubles point and then swept the six singles matches in straight sets.
The Knights' number-one doubles team of
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil/COC Universitario) and
Mário Neto (Boa Vista, Brazil/Reino) started it off with a 6-2 win. The number-three team of
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) and
Caleb Bartels (Belton, Mo./Kansas City Christian) finished next with a 6-1 win, and the number-two team of
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) finished off the sweep with a 6-4 win.
In singles, Alipio and Bartels each won in straight sets 6-0 and 6-0 at the top of the line-up.
Broek and Neto each won 6-1 and 6-1 in the numbers three and four spots.
Emmanuel Henao (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") won in five-singles 6-3 and 6-1, and
James Vander Ark (Leawood, Kan./Kansas City Christian) won 6-0 and 6-2 in the number-six spot.
