Calvin Acrobatics and Tumbling Competes at NCATA Championships

BUFFALO, NY - Today the Calvin acrobatics and tumbling team competed in the NCATA Division III Tournament in Buffalo, New York where it matched up against Texas Lutheran University.
 
The Knights kicked off their day in the compulsory event where they had a start value of 34.00. After completing all four heats and their highest score of 6.950 coming in the pyramid heat, Calvin received a final score of 20.450. Texas Lutheran had a start value of 40.00 and received a score of 31.50 to take the lead.
 
In the acro event Calvin entered with a start value of 25.10 and received a score of 21.050 while Texas Lutheran had a start value of 28.10 and received a score of 25.00. 
 
Up next, the Knights took on the pyramid event where they had a start value of 27.50 and Texas Lutheran had a start value of 29.90. Calvin scored 8.650 in the inversion heat, 4.225 in the synchronized heat, and 8.50 in the open heat to record a final score of 21.375. Texas Lutheran received a score of 29.90 and headed into halftime with a 85.175-62.875 over the Knights.
 
After halftime the teams turned their attention to the toss event where Calvin had a start value of 21.575. In the open heat the Knights received a score of 7.775, their highest of the season in that heat, as they received a final score of 21.575. Texas Lutheran has a start value of 27.00 and received a score of 24.625.
 
In the tumbling event the Knights competed in the duo pass, trio pass, quad pass, aerial pass, six-element pass, and open pass and had a start value of 48.05. Calvin's highest score of 8.150 came from freshman Jenna Wert (Saint Clair, Mich./Saint Clair) in the aerial pass while Allie Mackens (New Boston, Mich./Huron), Maggie Ambrose (Hudsonville, Mich./Hudsonville), Eila Yee (Livonia, Mich./Livonia Stevenson), and Erin Ledkins (Marne, Mich./Kenowa Hills) recorded a season high of 4.500 in the quad pass as the Knights received a final score of 41.90. However, Texas Lutheran entered the event with a start value of 51.90 and received a score of 46.050 to increase their lead over the Knights.
 
Turning their attention to the team event, the Knights entered with a start value of 74.75 and received a score of 52.35, their second highest team event score of the season. Texas Lutheran had a start value of 90.65 and received a score of 72.550.
 
At the end of the meet the Knights ultimately fell to Texas Lutheran 178.700-228.400. However, the Knights scored high enough to advance to the consolation tri-meet which will take place tomorrow afternoon.
 
COACHES COMMENTS: "We had some uncharacteristic mistakes today for this team," said head coach Ellen Barker, "but instead of becoming consumed by them this team showed a lot of grit. They knew they had to have a great last few events and they made it happen. We're excited to improve on our performance tomorrow."
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will compete in the consolation tri-meet tomorrow. The Knights will face Adrian and host Buffalo State with the tri-meet set to start at 4 p.m. at the Buffalo State Sports Arena.
