WAVERLY, Iowa – The Calvin University track and field team set one indoor record to go with several other strong individual performances at the Wartburg Qualifier event hosted by Wartburg College this weekend.
Nine Calvin athletes competed at the event looking to secure qualifying results at next week's NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Sydney Radigan (Portland, Ore./St. Stephen's Academy) broke her own school record in the 200 meters on Saturday with a time of 25.06, putting her currently among the top 20 nationally with the chance to qualify for the NCAA Women's Indoor Championships.
The men's 4x400 relay team of
Corbin DeBoer (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian),
Benjamin Habers (Lake Ann, Mich./Traverse City West),
Connor Lubberts (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) and
Koby VanderWoude (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia) finished with a strong time of 3:18.92 to close their indoor season.
Luke Witvliet (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian) set a new personal best in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:25.51 that moved him into third place on the Calvin all-time top 10 list.
Ella Easterling (Norton, Ohio/Norton) competed on Friday in the pentathlon and finished with 2,940 points to take fifth in the event. Easterling's point total puts her third on the Calvin top 10 performance list.
Zach Van Baren (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian) competed in the heptathlon on Friday and Saturday and finished with a personal best 4,504 total points to rank second in the Calvin top 10 list.
Katie Seinen (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) finished with a top height of 3.32 meters in the pole vault on Saturday.
