Calvin University men's basketball players Owen Varnado and Luka Ressler were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division III Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team on Tuesday.
 
To earn a spot on the CSC Academic All-District Team, individuals must have maintained a cumulative 3.50 grade point average (GPA) and either appeared in over 90 percent of the team's games during the current season or started a minimum of 67 percent of the games. Freshmen are not eligible for nomination.
 
Varnado (Muskegon, Mich./Western Michigan Christian) earned the CSC honor for the second straight season. A junior economics/pre-law major, Varnado has a 3.78 cumulative GPA and is a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll and five-time member of the Calvin Dean's List.
 
On the court, Varnado averaged 16.2 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while starting all 28 contests for the Knights. He also led the team in three-point field goals (43) and free throws (125) while shooting 46.0 percent from the field.
 
Along with the CSC academic honor, Varnado also earned All-MIAA First Team and D3hoops.com Third Team All-Region honors following the season.
 
Ressler (Caledonia, Mich./Catholic Central) earned his first CSC Division III Academic All-District Men's Basketball Team honor this year. A junior exercise science major, Ressler has a 3.63 cumulative GPA and is a two-time MIAA Academic Honor Roll and five-time Calvin Dean's List honoree.
 
This season, the junior guard started all 28 games and finished with averages of 6.0 points and 3.1 assists per game, while also leading the MIAA with a 1.54 assist/turnover ratio.
 
The two juniors helped the Knights to the program's third consecutive MIAA regular season championship and a 14-0 conference season, along with its first MIAA Tournament Championship since 2017. The Knights closed the 2024-25 campaign with a 21-7 record and its third trip to the NCAA III Men's Basketball Tournament in the last four seasons.
