JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Calvin dropped a 13-10 decision to Oneonta State (NY) Wednesday afternoon in its spring trip opener.
Calvin (3-2) fell behind 5-2 in the first quarter but fought back later in the half to tie the game 7-7 at halftime. Calvin scored the final three goals of the half with junior
Braden Carpenter (Noblesville, Ind. Noblesville) scoring a pair and junior
David Blackmon (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) scoring one.
The game was tied after three quarters at 9-9. Carpenter again was key for the Knights with a late third period goal to tie the score.
Oneonta State outscored Calvin 4-1 in the fourth quarter.
Drew Garrison (Columbus, Ohio Worthington Kilbourne) scored for Calvin early in the fourth but the Knights were held scoreless over the final 10 minutes. Calvin hit the post twice and the crossbar once in the final 10 minutes of play.
Carpenter had three goals and two assists as he posted his seventh career hat trick including his second of the season. Senior
Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe South HS) had two goals and one assist. Blackmon had a goal and an assist as did senior
Cole McKenney (Mission Viejo, Calif. Trabuco Hills). Garrison, senior
Joshua Moyer (Allentown, Pa. Allentown Central Catholic) and sophomore
Jordan Warners (Orange, Calif. Crean Lutheran) all had single goals.
Junior
Nate Hanson (Naperville, Ill. Naperville North) had nine ground balls and was 14 of 24 on faceoff opportunities. Senior
Corgan Schaumburg (Rockton, Ill. Hononegah) had 20 saves in goal for the Knights.
