ANGOLA, Ind. - The Calvin women's indoor track and field team got a tune-up inside the track facility that will be the site of the MIAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in three weeks as the Knights competed at the Trine University Mrs. G Invitational on Friday.
Senior
Koby VanderWoude (Caledonia, Mich./Caledonia HS) helped power the Knights by winning the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.66 that ranks third in the MIAA.
Calvin flexed its muscle in the 400 meters, sweeping the top four spots. Freshman Ben Habers (Lake Ann, Mich. Traverse City West) won the race in a time of 51.08 with senior
Corbin DeBoer (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian HS) second (51.09), junior
Connor Lubberts (Jenison, Mich./Jenison HS) third (51.98) and sophomore
Mason Schimmel (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) fourth (52.13).
Senior
Thaine Nederveld (Columbus, Oh./Columbus Alternative School) made his 2025 indoor debut by placing second in the mile run (4:24.45). He led a 2-5-6 Calvin finish in the race. Freshman
Vaughn Meyer (Dexter, Mich./Dexter HS) was fifth (4:27.87) and senior
Eric Swinson (Fishers, Ind./Hamilton Southeastern HS) sixth (4:27.88).
Swinson had a busy night, placing sixth in the 800 meters (2:03.54).
Freshman Max Huizenga (Hudsonville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) was fifth in the 60-meter dash (7.14). Calvin mixed and matched four separate 4x400 meter relay teams with its top relay squad placing third in a time of 3:37.63.

In the field events, sophomore
Luke Nguyen (Houston, Texas Carl Wunsche Sr.) was third in the long jump (21-8). Freshman
Simon Vandenbroek (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) was fourth in the high jump (6-2 ¼) with freshman Petyon Coffey (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove HS) sixth (6-1 ¼) and sophomore
Zach Van Baren (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) seventh (6-0).
In the triple jump, sophomore Aiden Veltkamp (Lyden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS) was sixth (39-6 ½), freshman
Carter Dimsdale (Fort Worth, Texas Southwest Christian) seventh (37-6 ½) and senior
Ethan VanWoerkom (Denver, Colo. Denver Christian) eighth (36-11).
COACHES COMMENT: "A solid night for our men's team," said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "We had a nice collection of performances that cracked our Calvin (career indoor) top 10 list. I thought we competed well as a group. It was good to get a feel once again for this facility and we are looking forward to competing here again in three weeks."
NEXT UP: Calvin will compete at the GVSU Big Meet next Friday and Saturday in Allendale.
