RESULTS
ALLENDALE, Mich. – The Calvin men's track and field team concluded competition at the GVSU Big Meet on Saturday.
The Knights had a number of notable efforts highlighted by its jumps team.
Sophomore
Luke Nguyen (Houston, Texas Carl Wunsche Sr.) was fifth in the triple jump with a career-best mark of 43-1 ½ while also placing fifth in the long jump (21-5 ½). His triple jump mark ranks third in the MIAA this winter and ranks fourth on the Calvin career indoor performance list. Sophomore
Connor Johnson (Kingsley, Mich./Kingsley HS) was 11
th in the long jump (20-11 ¾ ad 13
th in the triple jump (39-5). Sophomore Adain Veltkamp (Lynden, Wash./Lynden Christian HS)
In the high jump, freshman
Simon Vandenbroek (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) placed fifth (6-2) with freshman
Peyton Coffey (Greenwood, Ind. Center Grove) eighth based on number of attempts with a jump of 6-2.
Sophomore
Zach Van Baren (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) tossed the shot put 41-5 ¼ to lead Calvin's throwers.
Freshman
Kaleb Dubowski (Big Rapids, Mich./Big Rapids HS) led Calvin's 200 meter dash competitors, finishing 25
th in a career-best time of 22.90. Sophomore
Eze Nwachuku (West Dundee, Ill. Dundee Crown) clocked in with a time of 23.29. In the 60 meter dash, freshman
Max Huizinga (Hudsonville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) was 10
th with a career-best time of 7.11. Nwachuku clocked in at 7.24 and Dubowski at 7.25. Huizinga's time in the 60 meter dash ranks second on the Calvin career indoor list while DuBowski's 200 time ranks fifth.
In the 400 meters, sophomore
Mason Schimmel (Grand Rapids, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) took 13
th in a career-best time of 50.25 that ranks fourth on the Calvin career indoor list.
Senior
Caleb Schillinger (North Liberty, Iowa Liberty) was 26
th in the 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:59.36.
In the 60 meter hurdles, VanBaren was 13
th (8.79) and freshman
Rhys Bedford (Delton, Mich./Delton-Kellogg HS) was 14
th (8.80).
COACHES COMMENT: "The team really brought it today at the second day of this (GVSU) Big Meet," said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "We continued the successes from day one (Friday) and helped put together an overall great weekend for the program. We are very much looking forward the MIAA Indoor Championships in two weeks!"
