Calvin Men’s Tennis Topped by MSOE 4-3

RACINE, Wis. – The Calvin University men's tennis team dropped a close match at Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) 4-3 on Friday afternoon at Racine Indoor Tennis Club.

Calvin (1-3) opened the match by dropping two of the three doubles matches to fall behind 1-0 overall.

MSOE (2-3) won the number-one and number-two matches 6-4, while the number-three team for Calvin of Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) won their match 6-3.

Needing four points in singles play to win the match, the Knights were only able to scratch across three wins.

Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil / COC Universitario) won his number-one singles match 6-3 and 6-4, and Felipe Sartori (Estr. Basiléia / Colégio Giusto Zonzini) won in number-three singles 6-4 and 6-1. Kim also took home a straight-sets win in number-five singles 7-6 and 6-3.

MSOE was able to hold off Calvin with wins in the other three matches, including a three-set tiebreaker win in number-two singles to clinch the team win.

COACH'S COMMENT: "It was a great match," Calvin co-interim head coach Jon Goorhouse said. "Their team played very well and won some deciding points. This is the level we need to play to finish at the top of the conference."

NEXT UP: Calvin men's tennis will return to action on Saturday, February 22, when it hosts Illinois Tech at 12:00 PM in the Huizenga Tennis & Track Center.
