LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Today the men's cross-country team traveled to Louisville, Kentucky, to compete in the NCAA III Great Lake Regional Championship.
 
The Knights finished in twelfth place with a team score of 366. Junior Ryan Sarkett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair) led the way for the Knights when he finished with a time of 26:04.47 in forty-fourth place out of a field of two hundred and two.
 
Sophomore Vaughn Meyer (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) was the next Knights to cross the finish line at 26:26.47 while fellow sophomore Jonathan Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was close behind with a time of 26:32.29. Sophomore Pierce Bentley (Kalamazoo, Mich./Otsego) and freshman Ian Reynolds (Littleton, Colo./Denver Christian) rounded out the scoring for Calvin when they finished with times of 26:37.85 and 26:02.49, respectively.
 
Sophomore Abe VanDuinen (Pentwater, Mich./Pentwater Public) (27:29.11) and freshman Samuel Downing (Zeeland, Mich./Zeeland East) (28:01.44) both competed in the field for Calvin but did not count towards the overall team score.
 
COACHES COMMENTS: "We finished right where we were projected to based on this season of development we've had," said head coach Nicole Kramer. "We didn't quite put all the pieces together on the same day as we aimed for, but I'm proud of the growth we've seen from the squad across the board. Experience often pays off in big races, and Ryan Sarkett showed he was our most veteran racer today in the final race of his career. As he often does, Ryan moved up well in the second half of the race and put himself in the mix for an All-Region honor. We will enter a large training block ahead, continue to have a strong culture and buy-in, and look forward to all the growth ahead for this men's program."
