RICHLAND, Mich. – The Calvin University women's golf team tied for fourth place at the third MIAA Jamboree event of the fall season on Monday at Gull Lake Country Club.
Calvin tied Adrian College for fourth place with a final team score of 327 strokes, which was one stroke ahead of Hope College in sixth place with a total of 328.
Andrea Diemer (Wyoming, Mich./Calvin Christian) was the top Calvin finisher and took third place overall with a 4-over par score of 77 on the par-73 course. Diemer played the front nine in 1-under par to help her to the high finish on the day.
Brooke Haney (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester) was next on the leaderboard for the Knights with a round of 80, followed by
Ava McConnon (Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe Christian) with an 84 and
Gina Sonday (Portland, Mich./Portland) with an 86 to round out the Calvin top four.
Elizabeth Lubowicki (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) shot 85 playing individually as a wild card, while
Kayla Adkins (Springfield, Ill./Springfield) shot 87.
Saint Mary's College (Ind.) won the event with a team score of 312, followed by Albion College and Trine University in a tie for second place with matching rounds of 319.
Calvin entered the day in sixth place in the MIAA standings through the first two events with an average team score of 326.5 and moved that average to 326.67 following Monday's round.
COACH'S COMMENT: "We had a solid day on a challenging course but we were not able to make up any ground on the teams ahead of us," Calvin head coach
Jerry Bergsma said. "A few bad stretches derailed our good start but we hung in there against a deep MIAA field. We're looking forward to finishing the fall strong at Alma on Saturday.
