FOND DU LAC, Wis. - Today the Calvin men's volleyball team finished up their showing at the Sabre Classic with a five-set loss to Westminster with scores of 23-25, 25-20, 22-25, 25-18 and 10-15.

Despite dropping the first set the Knights wasted no time bouncing back in the second in an attack led by freshman Troy Jones (Sparta, Mich./Sparta) who recorded five kills. Calvin also recorded a .243 hitting percentage in the second set, their best performance of the day.

Westminster reclaimed the lead when they won the third set before the Knights once again evened things up by taking the fourth. In the fifth set, Westminster delivered the final blow to Calvin when they went up early and never looked back.

The Knights finished the match with a .165 hitting percentage while holding Westminster to a .089 hitting percentage. Jones led the Knights in kills with 17 while sophomore Brady Gudauskas (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) and senior Gabriel Laughlin (Grand Rapids, Mich./West Michigan Aviation Academy) each chipped in 13 kills.

From the service line Ezekiel Jalan (Oconomowoc, Wis./Arrowhead) and sophomore Cameron Dogger (Holland, Mich./Zion Christian) both recorded three aces while Dogger led the team with 31 assists. Gudauskas picked up a team high 14 digs while Jones accounted for 12 digs.

Giovanni Serafini (São Paulo, Brazil/American School of São Paulo) made his presence known at the net with 7 blocks while Laughlin and sophomore Nick Bultje (Byron Center, Mich./South Christian) each recorded 5 blocks.

Junior libero Parker Steele (Boscobel, Wis./Boscal) recorded 11 digs and 4 assists on the day.

COACHES COMMENT: "Guys were relentless until the very end," said head coach Spencer Fredrick. "Cam and Zeke came up big time for us from the service line and Nick continued to show why he's a dominant threat from the middle."

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Tuesday, January 28th when they welcome Davenport and Cornerstone to campus for a doubleheader. The Knights will take on Davenport at 5PM before facing Cornerstone immediately following at 7PM.
