RESULTS
ALLENDALE, Mich. – A collection of Calvin men's track and field athletes competed in the Bill Clinger Classic hosted by Grand Valley State University Friday afternoon.
The Knights came away with a handful of strong performances.
Leading the way was senior
Luke Witvliet (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) who took eighth in the mile run with a career-best time of 4:14.71. The time is fourth on the all-time Calvin indoor men's track and field list and should plant Witvliet firmly inside the top 25 nationally in Division III when weekend times are updated. Witvliet also had a strong run in the 800 meters, placing 23
rd with a personal-best time of 1:59.62.
He was joined in both races by junior Garret Mowry (Carmel, Ind./Westfield HS) with Mowry placing 32
nd in the 800 meters (2:05.13) and 40
th in the mile run (4:31.43).
Sophomore
Zach Van Baren (Hudsonville, Mich./Covenant Christian HS) had a busy night, placing 11
th in the high jump (5-9) and eighth in the shot put (41-8). Freshman
Hunter Bristow (Belding, Mich./Belding HS) was 12
th in the high jump (5-9).
In the weight throw, graduate student
Matthew Toldy (Huron, Oh./Huron HS) was sixth (45-1).
COACHES COMMENT: "We had some strong showings today from the group competing at GVSU," said Calvin head track and field coach
Adam Haldorson. "This meet was a bit of a rust buster as it was the season opener for most of our athletes competing. Even with that we still posted top 10 (Calvin) marks and competed well."
NEXT UP: A larger group of Calvin athletes will compete at the Aurora University Grand Prix Invitational on Saturday in Aurora, Illinois.
