Calvin Men's Lacrosse Falls to Albion in MIAA Regular Season Finale

ALBION, Mich. – In a meeting of teams vying for second place and a home field berth for next week's MIAA Tournament, Calvin came up on the short end of a 19-11 decision at Albion College Wednesday night.

Calvin trailed 9-2 at the end of the first quarter and 15-4 at halftime as the Britons (6-10 overall, 4-1 MIAA) took control of the game from the outset.

Calvin (11-5 overall, 4-2 MIAA) trailed 19-8 after the third quarter and then scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to close the final margin of victory.

Juniors Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Grosse Pointe South) and Christian Coler, sophomore David Blackmon (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) and freshman Jordan Warners (Orange, Ca./Crean Lutheran HS) had two goals apiece for the Knights. Juniors Nick Griffith (Rockton, Ill. Hononegah) and Jacob Bledsoe (Mission Viejo, Calif. J. Serra Catholic) and sophomore Braden Carpenter (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS) had single goals.

Coler and senior Ethan Boelens (Round Lake, Il./Grayslake Central HS) had seven ground balls apiece while Boelens had six caused turnovers. Sophomore Nate Hanson (Naperville, Il./Naperville North HS) had six ground balls and was 15 of 33 on faceoff opportunities.

Senior Corgan Schaumburg (Rockton, Ill. Hononegah)  went the first 30 minutes and came up with six saves. Junior Carter Sherman (Ada, Mich./Lowell HS) went the final 30 minutes and posted seven saves.

Calvin is assured of a spot in next week's four-team MIAA Tournament and will likely travel back to Albion next Wednesday.

NEXT UP: Calvin will host Lake Forest College on Saturday in a non-conference game at 1 p.m. at Zuidema Field. Calvin will honor its graduating seniors as part of the day's festivities.
