GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin University women's tennis team improved to 6-1 in MIAA play with an 8-1 win over Trine University on Saturday at Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.
The match was moved indoors following a late finish to the men's match against the Thunder, and Calvin (16-2, 6-1) took home two of the three points in doubles.
The number-three doubles team of
Elise Norman (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) and
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo) won 8-1, while the number-two team of
Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and
Rachel Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) won 8-3.
Trine (10-9, 2-5 MIAA) scored an 8-4 win in number-one doubles for its lone point of the day.

Catherine Grissom,
Maggie Shoemaker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian),
Averi Lewis (Tualatin, Ore./Tualatin) and
Delanie Minnema (East Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe) each won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Marina Ribeiro (Santos, Sao Paulo, Brazil) won 6-1, 6-1 in two-singles, while Holman (6-1, 6-3) won her match in one-singles.
COACH'S COMMENT: "We took care of business and played a strong match after a long day of tennis," Calvin head tennis coach
John Ross said. "We need to finish strong next week against Alma to give ourselves the opportunity to host in the opening round of the conference tournament."
NEXT UP: Calvin women's tennis returns to action on Wednesday, April 24, when it closes the regular season with a home match against Alma College. The match is scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
