Calvin Women's Lacrosse Takes Down Adrian At Zuidema Field

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Today the Calvin women's lacrosse team defeated the Bulldogs of Adrian 15-10 at Zuidema Field.

After today's game the Knights move to 5-9 overall and 2-2 in the MIAA play while Adrian falls to a 5-6 overall record and a 1-3 MIAA record.

In the first quarter the Bulldogs got out to a hot start with two quick goals before Jacey Smith (Watertown, Wis./Watertown) found the back of the net off an assist from Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt). With twenty seconds left in the quarter Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) fed Bethard who scored to tie things at 2-2.

The Knights dominated the second quarter as Kelly Ruha (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsville Armstrong) kicked things off by getting in on the scoring action. A few minutes later Chang expertly weaved through several Bulldog defenders to find the back of the net to make the score 4-2. Bethard scored three more times in the period while Anneliese Hanson (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) netted her first goal of the night to extend the Calvin lead. Adrian looked to bounce back as they scored two goals of its own but the Knights held a commanding 8-4 lead at the half.

Calvin continued to keep the offense rolling in the second half as Smith, Hanson, and Bethard all added to their goal totals. With four minutes left in the game Ainsley Gothard (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) scored the final Calvin goal of the evening and allowed the Knights to walk away with the 15-10 victory.

The Knights out shot Adrian 31-18 while also securing 20 draw controls compared to the Bulldogs 9.

Bethard ended the night as Calvin's leading scorer with five goals and three assists while Smith was close behind with four. Hanson finished with three goals while Chang led the team with six ground balls.
