GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Calvin got back on the winning track with a dominant 14-7 conference victory over Kalamazoo College Saturday afternoon at Zuidema Field.
The Knights improve to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in the MIAA.
Calvin shocked the visiting Hornets with five straight goals to lead 5-0 after one quarter of play. Calvin went on to lead 8-1 at halftime and cruised through the second half, widening its lead to 13-3 early in the fourth quarter before the Hornets came back with four late goals to slice the final margin in half.
Sophomore
David Blackmon (Wheaton, Il./Wheaton North HS) led the Calvin charge with three goals to notch his third hat-trick performance of the season.
Junior
Joshua Moyer (Allentown, Pa./) had two goals and an assist while sophomore
Braden Carpenter (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville HS) snagged a pair of goals.
Junior
Christian Coler (Ionia, N.Y. Honeyoye Falls-Lima) recorded a goal, two assists and eight ground balls.

Thomas Smith (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich. Grosse Pointe South) had a goal and an assist.

Chuck McKenney (Mission Viejo, Calif. Trabuco Hills) also had a goal and an assist. Junior

Corgan Schaumburg (Rockton, Ill. Hononegah) went the first 47:28 in goal for Calvin, making three saves. Sophomore
Soren Thiemann (Plano, Texas/Plano Senior) and junior
Carter Sherman (Ada, Mich./Lowell HS) also saw time in goal and both collected one save.
Calvin held a 45-26 shots at goal advantage.
COACHES COMMENT: "It was a great team win," said Calvin head coach
