Calvin Men's Tennis Sweeps Wittenberg 9-0

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Calvin University men's tennis team remains unbeaten after a 9-0 sweep of Wittenberg University on Tuesday on its spring break trip.

Calvin (6-0) started off the win in doubles by taking all three points. The top team of Maurquis Willingham (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and Emmanuel Henao (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") won a close 8-7 battle thanks to a tiebreaker to earn the final points, while the number-two team of Felipe Sartori (Cotia, Brazil/Colégio Giusto Zonzini) and Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, Brazil/COC Universitário) and number-three team of Noah Yi (Fullerton, Calif./Valencia) and Adam Zentner (Clarkston, Mich./Clarkston) each won 8-3.

In singles, Alipio, Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian), Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) and Ben Timmermans (Grandville, Mich./Unity Christian) each won in straight sets to secure four points.

Willingham won his number-two singles match 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-6) in three sets, while Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) secured the final point with a 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2) win in three sets. 

COACH'S COMMENT: "Really nice wins for our programs today," Calvin head tennis coach John Ross said. "Very happy with the way we performed and I'm looking forward to seeing us battle against some good opponents on Thursday." 

NEXT UP: Calvin tennis returns to action on Thursday, March 7, when it plays against both Concordia Wisconsin (11:00 AM) and Keiser (5:00 PM) in Orlando.
