Calvin University senior
Ethan Boelens was named MIAA Men's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
Â
Boelens (Round Lake, Ill./Grayslake Central) won the award thanks to his work in wins by the Knights last week against Illinois Tech (10-9 on March 20) and Benedictine (12-8 on March 23) to help the team improve to 6-3 so far this season.
Â
In the two wins, Boelens led a defense that was missing several contributors. Boelens caused six turnovers in the two games and added five ground balls while also playing a key role in the Knights' 92.5 percent clear percentage over the two contests.
Â
This season, Boelens leads the Knights with 26 caused turnovers and ranks second with 33 ground balls.
Â
This marks the second time this season Boelens has taken home MIAA Defensive Player of the Week honors, having also won the award on March 11.
Â
Calvin men's lacrosse will return to action on Saturday, March 30, when it hosts North Central in a game scheduled to start at 1:00 PM at Zuidema Field.
