GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The 13th-ranked Calvin University men's basketball team set a new season high for points scored in a 90-62 win over The University of Olivet on Wednesday night at Van Noord Arena.
Calvin (19-3, 9-2 MIAA) pushed its first half lead to 11 points (28-17) with 6:46 remaining in the opening half and led by at least 10 points the rest of the way en route to the win.
Uchenna Egekeze (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) was on the attack to start the game, scoring 10 first-half points on 4-7 shooting as he weaved his way to the basket for lay-ups to help the Knights take a 42-25 halftime lead.

Defensively, the Knights held Olivet (3-19, 1-10 MIAA) to 33.9 percent shooting, but the Comets shot well from the perimeter and finished with 10 three-pointers of their own.
Egekeze and Varnado led the Knights with 16 points apiece, while
Jalen Overway (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) finished with 15 points.
With his 16 points, Egekeze moved past Kevin Broene and into 23rd place on the all-time Calvin scoring list, boosting his career total to 1,057 points.

COACH'S COMMENT: "I thought we had a lot of guys who came out and did some good things," Calvin men's basketball head coach
Bill Sall said. "Olivet gave us some trouble. I think Sam Hargraves has done a great job there. That's a team that's had some tough losses but they come out and compete every night. So it was a good game for us. I really like that we're taking care of the ball. We finished with 21 assists and six turnovers, which is awesome. I thought Uchenna was really great in the beginning and was really aggressive downhill. We really need that from him. And then Owen, in the second half, was pretty amazing.
NEXT UP: Calvin men's basketball returns to action on Saturday, February 10, when it travels to Kalamazoo College for a game scheduled to tip off at 3:00 PM.
