CHICAGO, Ill. – The Calvin University women's tennis team remained unbeaten this season with a 9-0 sweep at Illinois Tech on Saturday night.
 
Calvin (5-0) was in control from start to finish as it swept all three doubles and six singles contests against the Scarlet Hawks (3-10).
 
The night started in doubles, where both the number one team of 
Catherine Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and 
Rachel Grissom (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) and number-two team of 
Elise Norman (Battle Creek, Mich./Lakeview) and 
Julia Hooker (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) won 8-1. The number-three team of 
Sabrina Lopez (Thornton, Ill./Illiana Christian) and 
Marissa Baker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) won their match 8-3 to complete the sweep.
 
In singles, 
Tessa Holman (Washington, Mich./Romeo), 
Catherine Grissom, 
Maggie Shoemaker (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian), 
Averi Lewis (Tualtin, Ore./Tualatin) and 
Delanie Minnema (East Grand Rapids, Mich./Northpointe) each won in straight sets, while 
Marina Ribeiro (Santos, São Paulo, Brazil) came back after losing the first set to win in a third-set tie-breaker to complete the sweep.
 
COACH'S COMMENT: "It was a nice match for the women tonight," Calvin head tennis coach 
John Ross said. "They played well and got the win, and it was great to be able to play the entire roster. We're looking forward to a challenging spring break trip."
 
NEXT UP: Calvin women's tennis will return to action on March 4, when it starts its spring break trip to Orlando, Florida, with a match against Concordia College (Minn.).
