After tonight's match the Knights fell to 1-1 on the young season while Chatham, which played in its first game of the year, moved to 1-0.
In the first quarter Chatham opened up play by scoring four goals to take a quick lead over the Knights. The Cougars notched a fifth goal to begin the second quarter before sophomore Audrey Booher (Fishers, Ind./Heritage Christian) scored to give Calvin its first point of the night. However, Chatham did not back down and scored two goals to end the period and take the 7-2 lead at the half.
As the third period got underway it would prove to be action packed as the Knights came out of the break strong with a quick goal from Booher. The Cougars retaliated with a goal of their own before senior Kelly Ruha (New Hope, Minn./Robbinsville Armstrong) scored for Calvin less than a minute later to make the score 8-4.
Looking to take back momentum, Chatham went on the attack and scored two goals to extend its lead. Booher followed that up with back to back goals, one of which was assisted by Morgan Bethard (DeWitt, Mich./DeWitt).Â
At the beginning of the fourth quarter the Knights only trailed by three and continued to push on the attack. However, beside another goal scored by Booher with forty seconds left in the game, the fourth quarter was quiet and the Knights fell 10-8.

COACHES COMMENT: "Chatham is a strong, fast, physical team that came out swinging," said head coach Blake Boehm. "I'm proud of the team's effort tonight. They got down early, but didn't give up. Defense locked in and held strong while offense started to figure out how to attack. We had make several adjustments in this game and it was really rewarding to see my players and coaches step up to the challenge and deliver. We're looking forward to tomorrow's game and continuing our journey."
UP NEXT: Calvin will be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they take on Thiel.
