JACKSON, Wis. - The Calvin University men's tennis team started the first leg of its two-day Wisconsin road trip on a high note with a 9-0 sweep of Wisconsin Lutheran College (WLC) on Thursday at Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.
The match started in doubles, where the Knights took home all three wins to jump on top 3-0. The top-seeded team of
Maurquis Willingham (Indianapolis, Ind./North Central) andÂ
Emmanuel Henao (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") won 8-4, followed by the number-two team ofÂ
Felipe Sartori (Cotia, Brazil/Colegio Giusto Zonzini) andÂ
Rodrigo Alipio (Santos, Brazil/COC Universitario) winning 8-1. The number- three team of
Noah Yi (Fullerton, Calif./Valencia) and
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) swept their match 8-0.
In singles, Calvin (2-0) took home all six matches in straight sets.
Starting from the top of the line-up, Alipio (6-0, 6-4), Willingham (6-1, 6-0), Sartori (6-0, 6-0), Kim (6-1, 6-1),
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) (6-3, 6-3) and
Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) (6-1, 6-0) each took home singles wins in the match to secure the 9-0 sweep of WLC (1-6).
