GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Calvin men's soccer team celebrated Calvin Senior Night with a 3-0 conference victory over Alma College Saturday night at Calvin Soccer Stadium.
The Knights improve to 10-5-2 overall and 3-1-2 in the MIAA. Calvin is 8-0-1 at home this season.
Calvin received a first half goal from freshman
Xtreme Hauk (Lansing, Mich/East Lansing HS) and then picked up second half tallies from sophomore
Quinten Latchett (Houston, Tx./Bellaire HS) and senior
Alex White (Lake Bluff, Il./Lake Forest Academy) to seal the win.
The first half goal by Hauk came in the 27
th minute and began with a corner kick by White. The corner ricocheted outside the 18-yard box and was sent back in by senior
Jacob Goodling (Charlotte, NC/Covenant Day School). Goodling's ball came to the feet of sophomore
Carson Browning (Dublin, Oh./Dublin Jerome HS) who slid a touch to Hauk who slipped a shot past the keeper and into the net for his fourth goal of the year.
In the second half, Latchett was able to get loose on a breakaway against the run of play. Bursting past a defender at midfield, Latchett slashed a low hard shot past the Alma keeper in the 69
th minute to create a two-goal advantage.
In the 82
nd minute, White came crashing through the left side of the Alma box on a lead pass from Hauk. With the Alma goalkeeper charging hard, White lifted a shot over his outstretched arms to close out the scoring. The goal was White's team-leading 12
th goal of the year.n
Calvin finished with a 23-10 shots at goal advantage.
Senior
Kaelen Matascastillo (New Kensington, Pa./Minnesota Virtual Academy) went the first half in goal for Calvin, recording one two saves. Senior
Zac Moore (Pilesgrove, NJ//Woodstown HS) went the second half in goal for the Knights and had one save.
At halftime, Calvin honored the nine members of its seniors class:

Ethan Brown (Muskegon, Mich./Mona Shores HS),
Zach Flowerday (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS), Goodling, Matascastillo, Moore, Sammy Postelwait (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS), Reed VanderLugt (Ada, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian HS) and White.
COACHES COMMENT: "Always good to get 3 points in the league," said Calvin head men's soccer coach
Ryan Souders. "Happy to get a shutout and create some chances. One to go and plenty to play for. We'll have to learn from this one quickly before working to get a result out at a significantly improved Adrian side next week."
NEXT UP: Calvin will close out its MIAA regular season campaign next Tuesday, traveling to Adrian for a 7 p.m. contest.
