Calvin Men's Soccer Beats Bulldogs in Regular Season Finale

ADRIAN, Mich. – Calvin picked up a 3-0 road win at Adrian Tuesday night to secure third place in the final MIAA regular season standings. The Knights will be the No. 3 seed for the MIAA Tournament and will host a first round MIAA Tournament game Saturday night against Kalamazoo College at 7 p.m. at Calvin Soccer Stadium.

Calvin (11-5-2 overall, 4-1-2 MIAA) broke through a stubborn Adrian backline with a first half goal by senior Alex White (Lake Bluff, Il./Lake Forest Academy). The goal by White came on a nifty one-two combination with freshman Xtreme Hauk (Lansing, Mich./East Lansing HS) in the 33rd minute with White tucking a low shot underneath an onrushing goalkeeper.

White struck again in the 73rd minute, tapping in a cross from junior Jonah Meyer-Crothers (Sylvania, Oh./Sylvania-Northview HS) on the edge of the six-yard box. The goal was White's team-leading 14th goal of the season.

Calvin put the capper on the win with his second goal in as many games, scoring against the run of play in the 80th minute, taking a lead ball from sophomore Foster Garrett (Canton, Mich./Salem HS) and slamming a shot into the top shelf of the net for his fifth goal of the season.

Calvin dominated play, outshooting Adrian 24-4.

Senior Kaelen Matascastillo (New Kensington, Pa./Minnesota Virtual Academy) went the first half and collected one save. Senior Zac Moore (Pilesgrove, NJ/Woodstown HS) went the second half and picked up two saves.

COACHES COMMENT: "Really great road win tonight," said Calvin head men's soccer coach Ryan Souders. "Thought guys gave a full performance were able to create some really good goals. Adrian is a good team is having a great season. We'll have to rest quick for a tough Kalamazoo squad on the weekend. We know they will be ready, and we'll need to be at our best."

NEXT UP: Calvin will host Kalamazoo Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Calvin Soccer Stadium.
