Calvin Men's Swimming and Diving Picks Up Sweep Over Kalamazoo and Albion

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Today the Calvin men's swimming and diving team hosted a triangular meet at Venema Aquatic Center where they welcomed fellow MIAA competitors Kalamazoo and Albion.
 
Calvin picked up the sweep as they beat Albion 187-49 and Kalamazoo 194-49.
 
The Knights had a strong start to the evening as senior David Bajwa (Bethesda, Md./The Heights School), junior Caleb Gemmen (Mentor, Ohio/Homeschool), freshman Andrew Taulbee (Reynoldsburg, Oh./Reynoldsburg), and sophomore Addison Van Soelen (Lawrenceville, Ga./Providence) took the stop spot in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:32.96.
 
Calvin kept things rolling as Charles Platt (Downers Grove, Ill./Downers Grove North) (1:45.05), Josh Seidelman (Northville, Mich./Northville) (1:46.59), and Ryan Halberg (Novi, Mich./Northville) (1:48.15) took the top three spots in the 200 freestyle.
 
Bajwa continued to have a standout performance as he took the top spot in both the 50 freestyle (20.40) and the 100 butterfly (49.24) while junior Timothy Hays (Arlington Heights, Ill./Prospect) notched a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:55.19.
 
In the 100 backstroke, Platt took the top spot with a time of 50.84 with graduate student Corey Campbell (Kentwood, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) finishing close behind at 52.66. Seidelman claimed a first place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:44.94) while Gemmen was the first to touch the wall in the 100 breaststroke (56.33).
 
On the diving board, senior Wil Goodpaster (Hamilton, Mich./Hamilton) recorded the top score of 273.80 on the seven meter board.
 
The Knights wrapped up their evening with another first place finish when Siedelman, Halberg, Diego Herrera Mora (Liberty Hill, Tx./CTP de Belen), and Platt finished the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:07.99. 
 
COACHES COMMENTS: "I was super impressed with our performance tonight, it showed off our culture," said head coach Dan Gelderloos. "The team really enjoys watching each other swim fast and our athletes are all pushing each other up. We are ahead of past teams in building relationships and it is showing in our results."
 
UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Friday, November 1st when they host a Quad Meet at Venema Aquatic Center at 6PM.
