ANGOLA, Ind. – The Calvin University men's soccer team lost at Trine University 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Trine (4-6-0, 2-0-0 MIAA) jumped in front early as Braden Estep scored off a pass from Ben Borak in the fourth minute and took that 1-0 lead into halftime.
Calvin (7-5-1, 0-1-1 MIAA) looked for the equalizer in the second half, but it was Ryan Cote of Trine who found the back of the net in the 83rd minute off an assist from Estep for an insurance goal to help the Thunder close the game with the 2-0 win.
The Knights finished with a 12-7 advantage in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal for the game.
Xtreme Hauk (Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) led the team with three shots and two shots on goal.
Alex White (Lake Bluff, Ill./Lake Forest Academy) and
Colin Nieuwenhuis (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) each finished with a pair of shots.
COACH'S COMMENT: "Credit to Trine," Calvin head men's soccer coach
Ryan Souders said. "They disrupted us from the get-go and executed flawlessly. We didn't adjust or adapt in any way to what we needed to do. That part is on us. Once again, we have to decide who we want to be. Is this something that spirals us or drives us? Each of us is going to have to figure that out."
NEXT UP: Calvin men's soccer will return to action on Tuesday, October 15, when it plays at The University of Olivet at 4:30 PM.
