MUSKEGON, Mich. - Today the Calvin men's cross country team participated in the Jayhawk Invitational hosted by Muskegon Community College where they were able to place fourth among the field of thirteen teams.

Finishing with 116 points the Knights finished twenty-six points behind third place Hope while Lansing Community College and Aquinas claimed the number one and two spots.

Freshman
Vaughn Meyer (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) was the top finisher for Calvin as he crossed the finish line at 25:14.89 and claimed third place out of a field of over 180 competitors. Fellow freshman
Jonathan Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was the next Knights to finish at 26:10.97 while sophomore
Pierce Bentley (Kalamazoo, Mich/Otsego) was close behind at 26:10.97.

Caleb Schillinger (North Liberty, Iowa/Liberty) (27:05.86), senior
Trent Sivils (Chesapeake, Va./Stonebridge School) (27:07.28), and sophomore
Gabe Verlin (Grand Rapids, Mich./South Christian) (27:11.61) all crossed the finish line within seconds of one another.

Elijah Powell (Saranac, Mich./Saranac) rounded out the scoring for the Knights when he finished with a time of 27:23.21.

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, October 19th when they travel to Rock Island, Illinois to compete against Augustana College. The race is set to begin at 11:15AM.
