GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Calvin's B' squad was up to the challenge in defeating visiting Olivet and Kalamazoo Saturday afternoon inside the Venema Aquatic Center. The Knights are now 6-6 in dual action this season.
Senior
Lynda Steen (Schaumburg, Il./Schaumburg HS) had an outstanding day in the distance events, winning the 1,650 freestyle and 500 freestyle. She led a 1-2-3 Calvin sweep in the 1,650 with a winning time of 19:02.26 while
Kailee Turner (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS) was second (19:22.60) and
Eden Maring (Grandville, Mich./Calvin Christian HS) third (19:37.69). Steen then led a 1-2 Calvin finish in the 500 freestyle, winning the race in 5:33.80 with Maring second (5:42.04).
Senior
Maria Pfundt (Petersburg, Alaska/Petersburg HS) won the 50 freestyle (26.04) and was part of a 1-2 Calvin finish in the 100 free with senior
Jenna Pierce (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) winning the race (55.61) and Pfundt second (57.35).
Junior Abigal Merz (Flint, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) was the winner in the 200 breaststroke (2:36.19).

COACHES COMMENT: "We were able to split up our teams today and that allowed swimmers to step into some bigger roles," said Calvin head swim coach
Dan Gelderloos. "We were able to give everyone up and down the roster some great swims and challenges. I am was very happy to hear the enthusiasm that the home crew swam with, and we were able to compete very well with a very good Chicago program while working on our ability to swim on the road which is important for us down the stretch run of the season."
NEXT UP: Calvin will host Division II Wayne State next Saturday at 1 p.m. in a non-conference dual meet at the Venema Aquatic Center.
