Calvin Women's Soccer Ties with Illinois Tech 0-0

GRAND RAPIDS, MI - Today the Calvin women's soccer team traveled to Chicago to take on the Scarlett Hawks of Illinois Institute of Technology. Heading into today's match the Knight's are ranked 16th in the United Soccer Coaches National Poll, up three spots from where they were last week.

The first forty five minutes went by with little action as both teams struggled to create scoring opportunities. During the half Calvin outshot Illinois Tech 6-5 and was able to earn 4 corner kicks. Unfortunately, they were unable to convert on any of them and the teams went into halftime tied 0-0.

In the second half the Knights looked to make something happen as they continued to throw numbers forward. Calvin's best scoring chance came in the 78th minute when freshman midfielder Mikaela Waroway (Ann Arbor, Mich./Father Gabriel Richard) got possession of the ball just outside the Illinois Tech eighteen yard box. Waroway quickly surveyed the Hawks defense before slipping a ball through two defenders to the feet of Mia Judd (Grand Ledge, Mich./Lansing Christian) who got a shot off before defenders closed in. Unfortunately for the Knights, the ball went just wide of the goal and things remained scoreless.

In the defensive end Calvin held strong and snuffed out any opportunity that the Hawks tried to create. When the final whistle blew the teams remained tied at 0-0 and the Knights overall record moved to 5-0-2. The Knights outshot Illinois Tech 13-8 and junior goalkeeper Kalex Dodge (Leslie, Mich./Leslie) recorded one save on the night.

COACHES COMMENTS: "A really evenly played match with two really good teams," said head coach Emily Ottenhoff. "I thought we had some really good moments tonight but we didn't bring enough of an edge for 90 minutes to get a win. We'll have to be better going forward toi reach our potential as a team."

UP NEXT: The Knights will be back in action on Saturday, September 23rd when they welcome Wittenburg to Zuidema Field.
