Sall, Allman Named CSC Academic All-America

Calvin University runners Delaney Sall and Jenna Allman received Academic All-America honors for track and field/cross country from the College Sports Communicators (CSC) on Wednesday.

Sall (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) was named to the Second Team, while Allman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Saline) was named to the Third Team.

Delaney Sall

Sall was named Academic All-America for the second consecutive season after being named Third Team Academic All-America following the 2021-22 season.

This season, Sall was a critical runner on the cross country and track teams, helping the Knights to second-place finishes in cross country, indoor track and outdoor track. After earning All-MIAA Second Team honors in cross country, Sall won the 800 meters at the MIAA Indoor Track & Field Championships and was named All-MIAA First Team following the indoor season.

The school-record holder in the 800 meters (2:08.23), Sall is a four-time NCAA Division III All-American in track and field, and also a six-time USTFCCCA Great Lakes All-Region selection (twice cross country, twice indoor track, and twice outdoor track).

A triple major in Spanish, sociology and environmental studies, Sall has a grade point average (GPA) of 3.83. She is also a six-time member of the Calvin Dean's List and two-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll.

Jenna Allman

Allman was named Third Team Academic All-America after a stellar three seasons on the trails and the track. Allman competed in the NCAA Championships in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. She was also named First Team All-MIAA in cross country.

Allman started the school year strong, taking second at the MIAA Cross Country Championships with a personal-best time of 21:34.7 to help the Knights take second place as a team.

In the indoor track and field season, Allman qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 3,000 meters, where she finished in 19th place. She would follow that by finishing 19th in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

Along with taking home Great Lakes All-Region honors from the USTFCCCA in all three seasons, Allman has a 3.87 GPA as a double major in social work and psychology. She is also a six-time member of the Calvin Dean's List, a two-time member of the MIAA Academic Honor Roll, and has received USTFCCCA All-Academic honors in both cross country and track and field.

To be eligible to receive CSC Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must first be named Academic All-District, which carries the qualifications of:
  • Sophomore athletically or higher
  • 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher
  • Been enrolled at the institution for at least one calendar year
  • Starter or key reserve
Sall and Allman are among Calvin student-athletes during the 2022-23 school year to win CSC Academic All-America honors, tying the Calvin record for a single year.

Calvin has now produced a total of 156 CSC (formerly COSIDA) Academic All-America honorees.

Calvin head cross country coach Nicole Kramer on the two honorees:

"Delaney and Jenna have both had illustrious careers in a Calvin uniform, and they have shown immense development in just the past year since I started coaching them. Delaney and Jenna are great representatives of a welcoming community and strong team culture throughout the program, and we are proud of this prestigious honor they have earned from the CSC.

Delaney is not only a force on the track, but she is a team-focused cross country racer as well. She has been a key contributor in our chase packs, and has earned All-Region honors the last two seasons. We're all very excited for the variety of ways Delaney will continue to help the XC/TF program as she gets ready for her senior season!

Jenna had a breakout year in 2022-23. As the primary front runner on the distance side, Jenna has taken on every new opportunity in stride and learned a lot that will help her as a senior. Jenna has put in so much work to become an elite DIII runner, and it has been rewarding to coach someone who is more excited for her teammates' success than her own individual accolades."
