ALMA, Mich. - The Calvin University men's tennis team scored a big road win by the final of 8-1 at Alma College on Friday.
Calvin (9-4, 2-1 MIAA) opened the match by taking two of three in doubles play. The number-one team of
Corwin Kim (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson) and
Tanner Warners (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) swept their match 8-0, while the number-two team of
Ryan Broek (Hudsonville, Mich./Unity Christian) and
Stuart Johnston (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) won 8-3. Alma (2-7, 1-3 MIAA) scored its lone point in the number-three doubles match by the final of 8-6.
The Knights swept all six singles matches, winning all of them in straight sets.
Kim (6-3, 6-0) won in the number-one spot, followed by
Harrison Sindelar (Westfield, Ind./Westfield) (6-2, 6-3),
Emmanuel Henao Estrada (Medellin, Columbia/Escuela Normal Superior "La Merced") (6-1, 6-1), Broek (6-0, 6-1), Johnston (6-3, 6-1) and Warners (6-1, 6-0).
COACH'S COMMENT: "Today was a good day for our guys to get an important road win," Calvin head tennis coach
John Ross said. "We're happy with the win, but know that we have a lot of work to do in the next few weeks as we head down the stretch in conference play."
NEXT UP: The Calvin men's tennis team will return to action on Tuesday, April 11, when it hosts Albion College in a match scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
