BEREA, Ohio - The Calvin women's lacrosse team dropped its non-conference matchup at Baldwin Wallace on Monday 11-9 in a game shortened to three quarters due to darkness.
The game was previously rescheduled after Saturday's scheduled game was postponed due to inclement weather, and Monday's contest was shortened due to a power outage at the facility.Â
The two teams went back and forth throughout the first half, with
Megan Gilbert (Lansing, Mich./Holt) starting the scoring just 32 seconds into the game to give Calvin (3-4) the 1-0 lead.Â
Baldwin Wallace (2-5) answered with a score two minutes later, and the teams would trade goals throughout the first half before the Knights took a 6-5 lead into halftime thanks to a goal by
Mekaelah McClymont (Camp Hill, Pa./Covenant Christian Academy) with only nine seconds remaining in the second quarter.Â
Gilbert was the driving offensive force for the Knights in the opening two quarters with four goals, while McClymont and
Lainey Aldridge (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich./Grosse Pointe North) each scored once.
The Yellowjackets turned the game around coming out of halftime, scoring six unanswered goals in the opening eight minutes of the third quarter to take an 11-6 lead.
The Knights answered with a pair of goals from
Meghan Chang (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) and another goal by McClymont with 1:45 to play in the quarter, but could not overcome the deficit.
Gilbert finished with a team-best four goals on nine shots and is now the Knights' all-time leader with 404 career draw controls, besting the previous mark of 393 set by Madeline Baas.
McClymont added two goals on seven shots and two assists.
Jessica Camp (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) stopped 11 of 22 Baldwin Wallace shots in goal.
