Fifth-year senior center
Gabby Timmer became the second Calvin University women's basketball player to score at least 2,000 career points on Saturday.
Timmer (Caledonia, Mich./South Christian) entered Saturday with 1,978 career points, and crossed the milestone with a game-high 25 points in a 71-65 win at Albion College that helped the Knights clinch the third seed in the MIAA Tournament and the program's first 20-win season since 2017.
Timmer joins Calvin's all-time leading scorer Carissa Verkaik (2009-13) as the only two players in program history to reach 2,000 career points.Â
In her fifth season with the program, Timmer is a four-time All-MIAA performer (three-time First Team) with career averages of 17.4 points, 9.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game. This season, Timmer leads the MIAA in points (18.0), rebounds (10.1) and blocks (2.4) per game while shooting 52.8 percent from the field and 75.5 percent from the free throw line.
Earlier this season, Timmer became Calvin's all-time leader with 1,132 career rebounds. She also ranks second in career free throws made (360) and fourth in career blocks (212).
"Gabby has been so steady over the years," Calvin head women's basketball coach
Mark Christner said. "One of her best attributes is her availability. She hasn't missed a game. She shows up and plays present. Congrats to G on an amazing milestone. It has been one of the blessings of my career to coach her."
The Calvin women's basketball team will return to action on Tuesday, February 21, when it hosts Adrian in the opening round of the MIAA Tournament.Â
