LAKE FOREST, Ill. - The Calvin University women's basketball team opened its season with a 59-48 win over Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) on Friday at the Forester Tip-Off Tournament hosted by Lake Forest College.
The Knights started strong, building a 19-13 after the first quarter, but the Falcons came back to cut the Calvin lead to two (32-30) at the half.
Calvin continued to frustrate the CUW offense in the second half, holding the Falcons to only 11 points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth.
Offensively, the Knights had a big second half on the offensive glass, helping them hold onto the lead until they pulled away in the final minutes.Â
RyAnn Rohrer (Ludington, Mich./Ludington) was credited with a game-high 15 points for the Knights to lead the offense.
COACH'S COMMENT: "Great effort from our team tonight," head coach
Mark Christner said. "First games can be weird. I loved our defensive effort in the second half. The energy from our offensive rebounding in the second half was a great catapult. Now on to play for a touney championship tomorrow!"
NEXT UP: Calvin women's basketball will return to action tomorrow (Saturday, November 11) at the Forester Tip-Off Tournament when it plays Macalester College in a game scheduled to tip off at 2:00 PM (CST).Â
